Brett W. Martin, Esq.

Managing Attorney

Brett W. Martin, Esq.Brett is licensed to practice law in New York and Colorado.  He is the sole shareholder and managing attorney of the Martin Law Firm, the business name of Brett W. Martin, P.C., a law firm located in Westminster, Colorado.  Brett was born in Pasadena, California.  He is a veteran and served with the U.S. Army from 1971 until his Honorable Discharge in 1979.

He is an advocate of fathers seeking to be actively involved with the parenting of their children.  Brett has four children of his own and has personally experienced the heartbreak of divorce and family breakup.  Brett, an experienced bankruptcy and commercial law litigator, initially formed the law firm of Brett W. Martin, P.C., in 1996 to provide quality and professional representation to fathers involved in custody disputes.  Over time, his domestic practice has grown to include representation of mothers, fathers, and grandparents in family law and domestic matters.

Brett started his career as a lawyer in upstate New York in 1983 representing the buyers in a home purchase contract dispute on appeal.  Following a successful appeal, Brett's practice in commercial matters grew and expanded into business financial restructuring and bankruptcy reorganization under Chapters 11 and 12.  In 1986, responding to the financial plight of farmers in a tough economy, Brett's practice developed an emphasis in the representation of small dairy farmers in their struggle to keep the family farm.

Upon moving to Colorado in 1989, Brett continued to practice in the areas of business financial restructuring, bankruptcy and commercial litigation.  Following the birth of his daughter in 1992, he took a sabbatical from the practice of law to become a stay-at-home dad and pursued a hobby in carpentry and cabinetmaking.  With his marriage ending in 1995, however, Brett returned to the full-time practice of law and founded the present firm with an emphasis in the representation of fathers in domestic matters.  Brett uses the negotiating, planning and litigating skills acquired through his years of experience in business and financial matters to advance the interests of dads in parenting disputes.

From representing fathers in custody matters, Brett's practice has expanded into the areas of restraining orders, stepparent adoptions, criminal defense and dependency and neglect proceedings.  Cases accepted have frequently involved allegations of parental alienation, domestic violence and spousal or child abuse.  Representation is currently accepted on behalf of fathers, mothers and grandparents in all areas of family and domestic law.

Commercial litigation, landlord and tenant, wills and estates, small business, corporate, civil litigation and appellate cases are welcome.  Brett has maintained his practice in commercial and general business matters for existing clients and their families, and welcomes new challenges and just causes.
